Rep. Ives Named “Guardian of Small Business”

WHEATON – State Representative Jeanne Ives (R- Wheaton) has been recognized with the "Guardian of Small Business" award by the National Federation of Independent Business/Illinois. The NFIB is Illinois' leading small business association, representing 11,000 businesses across the state. Every two years the organization scores legislators based on key small business votes they take in Springfield.

Rep. Ives received the award for her 100% positive voting record on legislation important to Illinois job creators and entrepreneurs during the 2015-2016 legislative session.

“I am proud to stand with the men and women of our small business community, here in DuPage County and across the state,” Rep. Ives said. “They are truly the backbone of the Illinois economy and I am committed to remain a strong advocate for them in Springfield.”

Representative Ives has also been recognized with the “Champion of Free Enterprise” award by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce for her 100% voting record “in defense of free enterprise and the furtherance of economic opportunities for Illinoisans” during the current 99th General Assembly (2015-2016).

As noted in the "Starting Your Business in Illinois Handbook", small businesses make up 98% of all Illinois businesses and employ nearly half the workforce. Last year, the Illinois economy grew at an annual rate of 1.6%, which was slower than the overall U.S. growth rate of 1.9%.
